The EWS (Economically Weaker Section) Certificate of Bihar is a document provided by the government that gives 10% reservation to the general category if the candidate comes from an economically weaker background.

EWS is an unreserved category, and a section of society falling into this category has an annual family income of less than 8 lakh. All the income sources of a family are counted towards the total annual income, like business, farming, jobs, house tenants, etc.
Families falling into the EWS category can have a 10% reservation in government jobs, schemes, and institutes.
Elligibility criteria for the EWS category:
- The applicant should belong to an economically weaker section of the general category.
- Annual family income from all sources like agriculture, salary, business, etc. should be less than Rs. 8 lakh.
- Agricultural land should be less than 5 acres.
- Residential land should be less than 100 square feet.
- The plot in notified municipalities should be less than 100 square yards.
- Residential plots in areas other than notified municipalities should be less than 200 square yards.
Documents required to apply for an EWS certificate in Bihar:
- Passport-size photo (20 KB–50 KB)
- You're required to upload a photocopy of any one document from the list of documents given below (jpg, jpeg, png, pdf file format in size up to 2 MB).
- Aadhaar Card
- Voter ID card
- Driving Licence
- PAN Card
- Passport
- Passbook (issued by the bank or post office with a photograph)
